Hi Dr. Karpel!
Thank you so much for your feedback as I can tell it is coming from a place of service.
I’ll definitely take your point about the title into consideration as this was a concern that was raised by some people.
And I appreciate you acknowledging that my intention here isn’t to downplay how serious and deadly the virus is. Which it most definitely is not. The goal here was to help people respond to the virus rather than stay in the fight-flight reaction to it and do what’s best by taking the measures all the experts are telling us.
Fear is definitely not the enemy. I tell clients that fear loves us, but it doesn’t help us make the best decisions when it comes to emotional survival as much as it does for our physical survival.
I’m curious now (and perhaps we can even take the conversation offline if you’re interested), what would you share with the people like the kids who went on spring break or the people in megachurches who are denying the seriousness of the disease?
Especially due to the fact that they are likely to be in that flight or freeze state due to the fear of accepting the reality of the situation? Perhaps I can edit things accordingly or write another article around it.
Also would love to see that article you wrote about calming your nervous system if you wouldn’t mind sharing the link. I’m always looking to learn more =)
